LOUTH County Council chairman Cllr Jim D'Arcy said the delegation of local politicians who met Minister John Gormley in Ballymascanlon Hotel on Monday had received a promise from the Green Party TD that he would fight for the future of the Louth Hospital at cabinet level in the coming weeks and months.

DUNDALK is now an immigrant-friendly town, according to a Nigerian who will contest local elections there. George Enyaozu of the Green Party will run in the western ward of Dundalk Town Council, and believes that relations between native locals and immigrants have improved immeasurably since he first arrived eight years ago.

Regarding Minister Ahern's "no quick fix" comments on cross border trade (Argus Jan 14th) , I would contest that there are in fact a range of measures that can be taken to reverse the trends that are so damaging the local economy this side of the border.

At a well attended monthly meeting of the Louth Green Party in Dundalk last night, members were told by Minister of State Trevor Sargent TD that the party, was continuing to work closely with the Minister for Education on finding ways of rolling back the worst effects of the cuts in education.

With the Green Party Ard Fheis only two weeks away things are really hotting up for Co. Louth business woman Karen Devine who will be the Convention Manager for this years event. "We are really looking forward to welcoming so many Green Party members to Louth. We fought off stiff competition from other counties to bring this event to Louth and now we intend to show them all that the County has to offer." Karen said.

Property developers who own riverside lands  in Dundalk, where the habitat of kingfisher birds and other wildlife was completely destroyed by a contractor clearing the site, have pledged to restore the habitat as much as possible. "We made a mistake and are here to fix it. We are as much to blame as everybody else," said Kieran Slevin of IBEX Construction at the site on the Ramparts Road in Dundalk yesterday.

Green Party Cllr Mark Dearey has welcomed €200,000 in funding for in youth and family focussed projects in the two RAPID areas of the town, Muirhevna Mor and Coxes Demesne. The funding has been allocated from the Dormant Accounts Fund for designated RAPID areas.
