Louth Green Party Chairman Michael McKeon today said that he is delighted to see that Louth and Meath have been included in the Coastal Protection Fund for 2008. "Over €56,000 has been allocated to Baltray for work on embankment and flood wall infrastructure to protect this scenic area from coastal erosion and flooding. In addition Laytown/Bettystown Beach has been awarded €45,000 for an Environmental Impact Statement on beach nourishment."

Welcoming the decision by An Bord Pleanala to refuse permission for a retail and apartment development on Barn Road on the basis it is "not satisfied that the development of the site, in the manner that has been proposed, would allow for the station to be re-opened", Green Party Councillor Mark Dearey, expressed the view that this decision clearly gives primacy to the future of the station.

Speaking to a packed meeting of Philipstown Residents Association at St. Kevin's Hall on Wednesday night, Cllr Mark Dearey pledged his support to the local community as they seek to eliminate the health hazards associated with the County Council landfill in the Parish.
