Dundalk at forefront of energy future- Energy Minister Eamon Ryan visits Louth


Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan has said Dundalk and its surrounds could hold the key to Ireland's energy future. Visiting DKIT today Minister Ryan said the town has the natural resources and the knowledge base to create and maintain real green jobs.

"As a coastal town, Dundalk has an abundance of natural resources that can be harnessed to produce renewable energy. Furthermore with Dkit producing graduates in renewable energy technologies and the Development Centre supporting small companies developing new products and services in the renewable energy sector Dundalk has the know how and enterprise to become a serious player in what is going to be a massive new global market.

"Dundalk is known nationally as being at the forefront of the renewable energy race, with its giant wind turbine at DKIT standing tall over the town.

Over the last two years the Green Party in government has made considerable progress in expanding the incentives for generating renewable energy, incentivising energy efficiency and supporting the development of environmental goods and services.

"The green economy is delivering - last week alone we saw the announcement of 250 new jobs in Athenry, 100 new jobs in Monaghan in the wind energy sector, and 180 jobs in Claremorris in bio-processing research. Dundalk can match and exceed this if it focuses on its inherent strengths which include a strong manufacturing tradition.."
