Dearey: Withdrawal of Isreali Diplomat 'proportionate and correct'
"What the Israeli authorities did and their absolute failure to respond to Irish requests for assistance in investigations into the matter is a serious rupture in relations between Ireland and Israel. It was imperative that Ireland respond proportionately and I believe this has happened today."
"On the wider issue's of the Gaza blockade Ireland must now consider its response to the illegal boarding of the Rachel Corrie and the detention of Irish citizens in Israel and I believe further diplomatic and economic sanctions need to be initiated while recognising that it is better for Ireland to use it's influence to work with all sides in ending the blockade and helping bring about the circumstances where the end goal of a two state solution is achieved" Senator Dearey concluded.
