"ICTU has delivered an opportunity to address a range of underlying problems that have bedevilled public service delivery and have driven competitiveness out of the economy over a number of years now. For that, the voting union membership, the delegates and union leadership deserve huge credit. They have put the long term well being of the country ahead of the understandable temptation to bring the deal down by way of protest.

The Croke Park deal is not perfect and I have met shop stewards and local union reps who do not see it as equitable in certain aspects. We need to continue to work to address any such inequity.

The goal over the life of the deal needs to be, the delivery of a high quality but affordable public service provided by public sector workers who find satisfaction in what they do"
