Seanad Seat for Dearey in Louth?
Commentators are speculating about a Seanad seat for Green Party Cllr Mark Dearey of Louth following his strong performance in Election ‘07. In light of the current negotiations for a programme of government on-going by the Green Party and Fianna Fail this speculation may become reality.
Summary:-
- Cllr Mark Dearey received 7.48% of first preference votes in Co. Louth in Election ‘07.
- Dearey more than doubled the 3.4% share of votes taken by the Green Party in Louth in 2002.
- Nationally, Dearey was the second highest performing unelected Green candidate in Election ’07 (second only to former T.D. Dan Boyle).
- These results were achieved despite the entry of Mairead McGuinness a high-profile late entry candidate.
In the event that a coalition government is formed, Dearey is now considered by many to be a serious contender for Taoiseachs nomination a seat in the Seanad.
