Praise for a decision that meets the needs of all sides

"Through regular contact over the past four months I am familiar with the case being made by the Ward Union, as I am with those who oppose the hunt. Today's decision to grant the licence with significant conditions appears to meet the demands of both sides. From now until the end of March the Ward hunt can pursue their sport and I welcome that, but the Minister can appoint a monitor who will travel in a hunt vehicle to oversee the conduct of the hunt. Most significantly though is condition 13 which requires that after the deer is released it must be recaptured by a competent person or persons before the hounds are released. This rules out any prospect of the deer being caught and should also mean that the deer will experience significantly less distress. Speaking today with someone closely connected to the Ward Hunt it seems that the conditions are being broadly welcomed and I want to commend all who contributed to this resolution."
