Cllr. Ollan Herr

Ollan HerrOllan Herr originally from Blackrock, County Louth became a Town Councillor for Dundalk central in March 2010 upon the appointment of Mark Dearey to the Senate. He had been involved in Green Party politics in Louth over the previous years and was the campaign manager to Mary Kavanagh for her election to Ardee Town Council.

Ollan was a student in Dundalk at the Christian Brothers, O Fiach College and later studied electronics at DkIT. He worked for a time in industry in this field. He also worked as a volunteer in the Simon Community in Dundalk as well working in a drug addiction and rehabilitation centre in County Dublin.

He was involved in an Organic Farm project with Mark Dearey during the 1990's.

He again became involved with Mark Dearey and Mary Kavanagh of Ardee who were part of the group that took a case against British Nuclear Fuels to seek an end to nuclear fuel reprocessing at Sellafield in Cumbria in England.

He has been heavily involved in the Anti Incineration movement and is now a board member of the Zero Waste Alliance of Ireland which advocates jobs in alternative recycling and resource recovery enterprises as an alternative to burning and landfilling of waste.

He has been self employed in Green enterprises for over twenty five years. He has marketed and installed wind pumping windmills, refurbished water wheels, monitored industrial effluent as well as selling solar panels and wood boilers. At present Herr Ltd is primarily focused on botanical, de centralized, or passive waste water treatment systems for the purpose of water recycling and nutrient recovery.

He has been on advisory groups of the Green Party on solid waste management, on water treatment policy and on measures to protect the quality of the air we breathe.

He has been part of the Dundalk Cycling Alliance who promotes quality Dutch standard cycle ways in Dundalk. Click here to view the current proposal by Councllor Herr to the Stretegic Policy Committee for Transport. 

He is married to Mary and they have four grown up children.

As a Councillor in Dundalk, Ollan Herr will be focusing primarily on local job creation in the emerging Green economy, sustainable waste water treatment, high quality traffic separated cycle ways for young cyclists going to school as well as public health protection and its promotion.
